On Sunday September 3rd, 16 teams gathered at Lynn Grove Academy, Gorleston, Norfolk to compete in a memorial tournament for Lyn Elvin who sadly passed away after a long illness in 2019. Lyn was very involved in netball at all levels as a player, umpire and volunteer on the Norfolk Committee.
Teams came from all over the county and a fabulous day of netball was had by all. Many of the ladies had met Lyn whilst playing and umpiring in the local area and at the Sun Sports Netball weekend in Spain. The photos of the event show what a wonderful day we had, Lyn would have loved it and the sun certainly was shining because of her!
We were joined on the day by Lyn's mum and dad, husband and sister to present the awards.
A fabulous effort and special thanks to Shelley James for organising the tournament.
Plate winners were Luma and the Cup Winners were Nova's. A total amount of £1675 was raised for the Big C. Thankyou everyone who came and made it such a magical day.
Netball East values all of its volunteers from Club, League, County and Region and is introducing the annual Netball East Long Service Award from 2023 to recognise those volunteers within the Region who have given dedicated voluntary service for 20 years or more. Congratulations to Cup winner Stars and Plate winner Supers. A massive thank you to all the committee members, umpires, players and supporters who attended.
We at Norfolk County Netball Association would like to send Jenny, Matthew and all of Joy’s family, our love and hugs at this difficult and sad time.
However, I am sure Joy wouldn’t like us to be sad or afraid to remember the good times that she shared with us. We in Joy’s wider netball family, have many happy and funny memories which we can all remember with great fondness.
Joy was a greatly admired force in netball especially in North Norfolk and Aylsham. The hundreds of children and later adults who passed through the netball Academy according to Joy, is huge!
Her passion for the sport was only superseded by her energy that she put into everything she did. Joy was for the real grass roots players. It didn’t matter if you had two left feet or couldn’t throw a ball properly, Joy just wanted as many girls as possible to be involved whether it was for a school team or a club . She didn’t make netball exclusive to just the elite athletes but encouraged as many young people as possible to play, and enjoy sport. Encouragement and fun was so important and so it should be.
There are women out there now who are still involved in netball either playing, coaching or umpiring who owe their love of netball to Joy as it was she who introduced and enthused them somewhere along their own netball journey.
Joy has left some mighty big shoes to fill but I know that netball in
Joy’s area is in a fit and healthy state. Keep an eye out at the Junior tournament for Joy’s award!!
Many thanks Joy, may your star always shine brightly over your Norfolk Netball Family.

Over the past few weeks Norfolk County Netball have donated £50 to each of the foodbanks within our county as part of our giving back to the community.
We recognise that many of our members may be finding the cost of living difficult at present and we wanted to give back a small token to those that are in need.
Norfolk Young Famers hosted their annual Sports Day on Sunday 19th February 2023 at Easton College. There were several teams attending from the Young Farmers communities for football and netball.
Two of our Norfolk umpires Deb Sutton and Jo Donnelly took charge of the round robin netball tournament.
All teams were very eager to have lots of fun. It was a great morning enjoyed by all and a great way to support the local community enjoying Netball!
Well done Ladies!
If you would like to get involved in Umpiring in the community, please let us know by emailing norfolkcountynetball@yahoo.co.uk
An incredible turn out at Wymondham on Friday evening for the first Walking Netball Session. Amazing to see 31 new ladies keen to pick up a Netball. Fantastic job done by Gina Hopkinson & team.
When your Walking Netball instructor says she dislikes the words “pants and socks” of course you turn up to the session with them on the outside…
It’s not just about the sport, but the enjoyment of being together.
Come along and join in one of the many sessions we hold in Norfolk.

The ladies at Norwich City College celebrated Chris's 80th Bithday and they may have accidently set off a fire alarm in process!!
